OBSTRUCTING THE FIELD

Three batsmen have been declared out for 'obstructing the field' in one-day internationals:

* Rameez Raja of Pakistan completed a hat - trick of unusual dismissals in 1987. He was erroneously given run out when he walked after being caught off a no-ball in an ODI at Perth. He was later run out without facing a ball in another ODI against England at the Oval. Finally, he was dismissed for 'obstructing the field' in an ODI against at Karachi, when he deflected the ball with his bat to avoid being run out while trying for a second run that would have enabled him to complete his hundred off the final delivery of the innings.

* India's Mohinder Amarnath, the first batsman to be given out for handling the ball in an ODI (against Australia at Melbourne in 1985-86), was the second to be declared out for obstructing the field when he kicked a ball out of the bowler's reach to avoid being run out. This happened against Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad during the MRF Nehru Cup in 1989-90.

* Inzamam-ul-Haq became the third batsman to be dismissed in this fashion in ODIs, in the first game of the ongoing five-match series against India. The Pakistani skipper was standing outside his crease when he blocked a direct throw from Suresh Raina with his bat.
