Boxing Day Test: Australia look to deliver the knockout punch
Cricket for India

After the painfully one-sided game at Perth, the action in the Australia-Pakistan Test series now shifts to Melbourne for the Boxing Day Test match. The first Test saw Australia trounce Pakistan by a whopping 491 runs. And they would certainly go into this game all guns blazing to clinch the series 2-0, which is much more than just a distinct possibility.

A familiar sight - The Australians celebrate the fall of yet another Pakistani wicket in the first Test at Perth.

When Pakistan arrived in Australia, not many gave them a chance of competing against the mighty opposition. But knowing the mercurial Pakistanis, cricket-lovers hoped that they got out on the right side of the bed. Even during Pakistan's last visit to this nation, everyone had dismissed Pakistan's chance of a series victory. And even though they eventually did lose the series 3-0, all the matches were closely contested with Pakistan always in sight of a victory. But they somehow lost the initiative every time - a major difference between the mental attitudes of the two sides.

Unfortunately for Pakistani cricket, not many from that tour are in the present squad. The likes of Ijaz Ahmed, Saeed Anwar, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis have hung up their boots while other experienced members like Saqlain Mushtaq and Azhar Mahmood do not find favour with selectors.

The current team under Inzamam-Ul-Haq has been having a roller-coaster ride. The skipper's captaincy has been both praised and criticised depending on the team's performance. But somehow, Inzamam seems to lack the charisma of his legendary predecessors like Imran Khan and Wasim Akram.

Shellshocked - Inzamam-ul-Haq returns to the pavilion after his first-ball dismissal in the second innings at Perth.
