Andrew Symonds,
the Man of the Match.

Eknath Solkar, one of the most versatile cricketers of all time and Indian cricket's 'Crisis Man' of the 1970s, passed away on 26th June 2005.

He will be remembered as one of the greatest, if not THE greatest fielder in Test history. Indeed, if a fielder's utility was to be measured by the number of catches he held per match, then Solkar has no competitor.

The following table proves this:

Fielders with the best ratio of catches per Test match (who have taken atleast fifty Test catches):

Players Matches Catches Catches / match
Eknath Solkar ( India ) 27 53 1.96
Bobby Simpson ( Australia ) 62 110 1.77
Mark Taylor ( Australia ) 104 157 1.51
Tony Greig ( England ) 58 87 1.50
Stephan Fleming ( New Zealand ) 94 136 1.45
Mark Waugh ( Australia ) 128 181 1.41
Greg Chappell ( Australia ) 87 122 1.40
Ian Chappell ( Australia ) 75 105 1.40
