Some interesting similarities between Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar:

* Both have scored four double centuries in Test cricket.

* Both have scored two double hundreds each at home and overseas.

* Both registered their 28th Test centuries in their 88th Test, 30th ton in their 99th Test and 34th hundred in their 119th Test.

* Gavaskar has scored 18 Test centuries abroad while Tendulkar has got 19 Test tons away from home.

* Both scored hundreds against all the Test-playing nations of their time. Gavaskar crossed the three-figure mark against six teams ( South Africa were banned for the entire duration of his career, and Zimbabwe and Bangladesh were yet to get Test status). Tendulkar has scored hundreds against nine Test-playing nations.

* Both have played 125 Tests. The ongoing Delhi Test is Tendulkar's 125th.

* Both have failed to post a century at Lord's. In Tendulkar's case, this sentence ought to end with the words 'so far'!

* Gavaskar's Test career lasted 15 years and 11 days since his debut against the West Indies at Trinidad in March 1971, while Tendulkar has completed 16 years and 25 days as a Test cricketer since his debut against Pakistan at Karachi in November 1989. .

* Gavaskar has the distinction of scoring the highest number of Test tons ( 33 ) as an opening batsman, while Tendulkar has scored the highest number of Test hundreds at the no. 4 slot.
