Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar:
* Both have scored four double centuries in Test
cricket.
* Both have scored two double hundreds each at home
and overseas.
* Both registered their 28th Test centuries in
their 88th Test, 30th ton in their 99th Test and
34th hundred in their 119th Test.
* Gavaskar has scored 18 Test centuries abroad
while Tendulkar has got 19 Test tons away from
home.
* Both scored hundreds against all the Test-playing
nations of their time. Gavaskar crossed the
three-figure mark against six teams ( South Africa
were banned for the entire duration of his career,
and Zimbabwe and Bangladesh were yet to get Test
status). Tendulkar has scored hundreds against nine
Test-playing nations.
* Both have played 125 Tests. The ongoing Delhi
Test is Tendulkar's 125th.
* Both have failed to post a century at Lord's. In
Tendulkar's case, this sentence ought to end with
the words 'so far'!
* Gavaskar's Test career lasted 15 years and 11
days since his debut against the West Indies at
Trinidad in March 1971, while Tendulkar has
completed 16 years and 25 days as a Test cricketer
since his debut against Pakistan at Karachi in
November 1989. .
* Gavaskar has the distinction of scoring the
highest number of Test tons ( 33 ) as an opening
batsman, while Tendulkar has scored the highest
number of Test hundreds at the no. 4 slot.
