Salwan Boys School, Delhi Vs. DAV Higher Secondary School, Chandigarh

Report: 5 Years of Parle Champions Trophy and as usual Salwan Boys again lifted the Cup with pride and became champions for the 5th Year in a row. This year’s final would be remembered by all for a long time to come, it was a nail biting finish for Salwan who just edged DAV Chandigarh by 4 runs. The 5 stars for Salwan were Yogesh Nagar (53 off 89), Anshul Gupta (70 off 61), Shobit Kaushik (47 off 32 n.o.) and Devender Kumar (37 off 16 n.o.) in batting and part time bowler Tarun Chaudhary who finished with figures of (6.1-0-41-3) helped Salwan boys lift the prestigious title of Parle Champions Trophy.

Rain delayed the start of the game by an hour and half and the match was reduced to 35-overs each side. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Salwan boys had a shaky start by losing their star opener Tarun Chaudhary for just 3 runs. Their temperament and skills came to the fore from then onwards as the finished their innings with a respectable 226 for 4 in 35 overs. Except for Karamjeet Singh, no other DAV bowler really proved to be a fear factor for Salwan as he finished his tally with (6-0-43-2). In reply, DAV had a pretty good hold on the match when they were 183 for 4 in 28 overs, where Sarul Kanwar was 103 off just 70 balls and Aditya Chaudhary was 50 for 77 balls. Then the pendulum swung in favour of Salwan Boys. 4 quick wickets and they were right in the game. The entire ground which was full with spectators was enthralled at this exciting final clash. Despite some powerful hitting by DAV captain Naresh Kumar (18 off 7 balls), DAV fell short by just 4 runs.

It was truly a nail biter and celebrities like Maninder Singh, Surinder Khanna, Sadanand Vishwanath, Arun Bharadwaj, Dr. Ijaz and Mr. Amol Chauhan (Director Parle) enjoyed every bit and were amazed to see such a close contest and the budding talent of India.

Semi-Final : April 27, 2005, New Delhi.

Report: The stars are still shining bright for Salwan Boys, Delhi, as they cruised through the semi-finals by knocking out Santhome High School, Chennai by 3 wickets in the Parle Champions Trophy. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Chennai openers E. Ashwin (62) and R.M. Kartik (28) did a splendid job by putting on 82 for the first wicket. However, after their dismissal, Salwan bowlers Rajeev Sharma (9-0-32-4) and Arun Rawat (9-0-32-3) took total control of the situation and restricted the visitors to 197 in 44 overs. Even Salwan Boys had early hick-ups when they lost their star opener Yogesh Nagar for a duck. However, opener Tarun Chaudhary (53) and one down batsman Anshul Gupta (46) held their nerves. In addition, with support from middle order batsman Rajeev Sharma (45 n.o.), the home team achieved the desired target with six overs and three wickets to spare.

Report: A superb batting performance by the top order of DAV, Chandigarh laid a strong foundation, where they put on 268/9 against Santhome, Chennai, who collapsed for 188 and DAV registered an easy win by 80 runs, thus registering a place in the Semi-Finals, in a league match of the 2005 Parle Champions Trophy.
